   Peter O. McDonald, CPA, Member of Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC, Named Maryland’s Accountant Advocate of the Year

Peter O. McDonald, CPA, Member of Smith Elliott Kearns & Company, LLC, has been recognized as Maryland’s Accountant Advocate of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Peter was nominated by Mr. Robert M. Jones on behalf of SCORE Hagerstown #0539 for his business accomplishments, civic contributions, leadership, and efforts to both support and improve the climate for small businesses.

McDonald joined SEK&Co in 2000 and was admitted as a Member in 2015. He practices in the firm’s Hagerstown office, providing accounting and tax services to a variety of individual and business clients. His expertise includes working with new business startups, dealing with multi-state taxation, and working with Canadian income taxes. Peter also has a special proficiency in accounting system compliance for federal government contractors. In addition to client responsibilities, he serves as Chair of the firm’s Accounting, Consulting and Tax Services Committee.

Each year, the President of the United States declares National Small Business Week to celebrate the contributions of the small business community to the nation’s economy. The Small Business Administration holds the annual awards competition to recognize outstanding small business owners and their advocates. Award winners will be honored at the 33rd Annual Maryland Small Business Week Awards Luncheon on June 8th at Martin’s West in Woodlawn, Maryland.
